Happy Fall to everyone! I love this time of year as we have nice, sunny weather in the 60’s/70’s (we hope anyway). I am a mountain biker, so the fall weather and scenery can’t be beat. Our first group just boarded the bus to Trail Creek, and it was fun to see the excited faces. We are now four weeks into the school year, so students and staff are settled into their daily routines. One of our weekly routines is Pride Period. Our goal in delivering this class is to continue our school-wide focus on positive relationships. It is important to teach and talk with kids about being nice and how to handle situations when a person is getting hurt verbally and/or physically. Our student survey data last year showed the Pride Class was helping with positive school culture. Our belief is that time spent time talking about being positive members of society will decrease teasing and/or bullying. As we tell students every day on announcements, “Work hard, have fun, and be nice.”
On Wednesday, September 28th, you will receive the first round of progress reports for the year via email. They will be emailed approximately every three weeks on Wednesdays, but grades can be viewed daily on Family Access. Family Access is a user friendly web-based program that allows you to track your student’s progress daily (it is a live look into each teacher’s gradebook). If you need information or a password, contact our front office. We no longer use quarter grades at the middle level. When you view Family Access, focus on the first semester grade (sorry we can’t remove the qtr. grade column). If you have any questions or concerns about your student’s grades, please contact your child’s individual teachers or the counselor to set up an appointment. Please don’t wait on grade concerns; we want to form a cohesive team right away to make your child successful.
We will be scheduling parent/teacher conferences on October 12th for those students who have been identified as having academic difficulties. Only parents who are contacted need to come to this conference night; however, we do leave some open spots for parent requests. If you would like to request a teacher conference, please contact Holly Lippy in our front office. As of September 28, our homework house program will be up and running in the mornings from 7:00-7:45, Tuesday through Friday. After school homework house is running from 2:50-4:00, Monday through Thursday. Also, please remember we have a 4:30 bus available for those students who stay late. A permission form must be completed in order to ride this bus and attend homework house.
We know with all of us working together, Canfield Middle School is a place where students can achieve great success. Always feel free to contact us with comments, questions, and/or concerns.
